River Valley Organizing
River Valley Organizing (RVO) is a multi-racial, multicultural working-class organization based in the Appalachian Ohio River Valley, with offices in East Liverpool and Portsmouth, Ohio. Founded in 2014 and officially becoming a 501(c)(3) non-profit in 2021, RVO focuses on empowering communities through advocacy and grassroots organizing.
RVO operates on a Service to Power model, ensuring that their services build community power rather than just providing aid. Their key areas of focus include environmental justice, drug policy reform, civic engagement, and public health. Notable campaigns include harm reduction efforts through Unharming Ohio, advocacy for police oversight, and community response to the East Palestine train derailment incident.
The organization actively engages citizens in the democratic process, promotes restorative and transformative justice solutions, and fights against the negative impacts of racialized drug policies and environmental degradation. RVO’s commitment to building power in marginalized communities is evident through their extensive grassroots initiatives and community-led solutions.
